The energy and excitement came through loud and clear over the airwaves today as George Fishman interviewed Laurel, ACFFC Director Georges Mattelus and student Bruno live from Haiti on his Mosaic of Art Blog Talk Radio show. If you missed it, you can download it here.

Jacmel, Haiti Day 7

We finished all the setting in the mural today!

Sunday was not a day of rest, but we did have a short day on the mural.

I actually love background setting.


Every time I squeezed in to work on the wall I either got demoted to thin set holder or got squeezed out!

Everyone was so committed to filling in the background well.


When there was little else but a thin strip at the top to fill, in one of the teenage boys, an accomplished painter called Ti Charles, suggested that we paint in a blue sky there.

He suggested that since we ran out of blue tile for the ocean that we could bump up the blue factor with paint.



We were thrilled. Georges and Ti Charles went back for paint and then Ti Charles went for it with beautiful results.

After we returned to ACFFC everyone took a well deserved rest.

We ate lunch and cleaned out a pan of the most delicious Haitian dessert called pain potate - sort of like a delicious sweet potato pie filling with sugar, condensed milk and banana.

We are not ready to leave Haiti! Jacmel is a beautiful town working to recover from the earth quake and to rebuild.


Tomorrow the mural will be totally complete and we'll celebrate!
