You may remember our post of June 16th about the uncovering of a 1,700 year old Roman floor mosaic in Lod, Israel. To recap -- The mosaic was discovered in 1996 but due to a lack of money to restore and display it properly, was quickly covered over for safe keeping.
Recently, funding for such a project became available through a joint gift from the Leon Levy Foundation and antiquities collector Shelby White. Estimated opening of the new mosaic center being built to display the work in Lod is 2012.
The photos below show the beauty of the mosaic being revealed once again. How I would love to be there.
